About
Hello!
I’ve decided to make a journal of my weekly experiences as a 30-something heading back to school to finish the long-sought after Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, with an Emphasis in Human Movement, minoring in Dance. I received my Associate’s degree in Legal Office Management, at Morrison University, Reno, NV, in 1995. I have been in the world of family since then - my wonderful husband, Greg and our 4 beautiful children, Alexandria (Alexa), 21; Anthony, 15, Kyrstiana (Kyra), 5 and Josephina (Nina), 4. Our youngest are now in preschool and so in my spare time (in the wee hours in the morning and while everyone is in school) I decided to reawaken my brain and give my career as a Group Fitness Instructor, by studying for my degree.
My career took a side turn when I decided that I did not want to pursue practicing law. As a legal assistant, I observed that there were so many attorneys with conflicting perspectives and the lifestyle didn’t strike me as family friendly, at the time. So, I started the path on something I really enjoyed - my minor, in dance.
As a child, I’ve always enjoyed being the center of attention. I sang and danced in front of small crowds at family functions and choreographed the latest songs on the radio and performed them to anyone who’d watch (once I made up dances to Michael Jackson’s entire Thriller album!). I started taking Jazz classes at 16 (when I could drive myself) at a local dance studio, Dance Unlimited. When I decided to leave high school early at 17 and move away from home to Las Vegas, I started my college career at the College of Southern Nevada and contined taking my dance classes and other core requirements.
After getting married and starting a family, I made a choice to stay at home and set aside my dance aspriations. I made the lateral transition to taking step aerobics classes, which I loved just as much as dance and decided eventually that I could teach group fitness classes and retain some of my dance experience as I choreographed my routines.
Managing my home, nurturing, teaching and training my family and teaching fitness classes (step aerobics, weight resistance training, boot camp, kickboxing, yoga, pilates and latin dance) has kept me very occupied through the years. Recently, a miracle occured as I was able to bring back ALL of my dance training and combine it with my experience as a group fitness professional when a new program called Zumba (www.zumba.com) offered a certification training, here in Toledo.
The past 6 months have been so rewarding as I have watched my children enter adulthood, enter high school and start preschool and then to add icing on the cake, to have found my niche in instructing group fitness and lastly, continuing my education. I’ve proven that you can find fulfilment in life doing everything you love to do when the time is right - including going back to college in my 30’s.
